We Are Commissioned By Christ!

The Great Commission Matthew 28The devil cannot control any part of your life that God does not give him permission with limited access. He needs God’s permission to gain access. And when God gives him permission, his access is limited. God will allow what must be, to see fulfillment of what he commission. Truth be told, the devil has no control. God is in full control.

Jesus appeared before his disciples in Galilee before he ascended into heaven and gave them these instructions, ‘Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20 NIV)

Jesus commands us to take action in our faith anywhere he sends us. Just as His disciples were instructed to go out in the world to proclaim and teach the gospel of God’s kingdom. We are followers of Christ. We are to witness, reach the masses, and lead others to Christ. Fulfill Jesus’ command as he specifically instructed. Teach, baptize. Make disciples.

Be attentive to the Holy Spirit. You have the ability to make significant contributions to help complete the “The Great Commission.” Advance God’s kingdom. Intercede on behalf of others with prayer. Prayer is spiritual warfare. Discern the attacks of the enemy. Defeat any and all devious plans of the enemy. Rebuke that spirit. Take back all the enemy thinks is his. Everything in the earth is God’s, not his.

We’re on high alert. Devil, you’ve been warned. You have been served notice. You are forewarned. Whatever devious plans or tricks you have up your sleeves, you will be defeated. We serve a mighty God. Thank you Jesus!

We are commissioned by Christ! It is our mission to share the gospel, teach, baptize, make disciples, and bring others to Christ. Follow Jesus’ command as instructed. Obey and follow his instructions.

Be blessed! -JD

Matthew 28:16-2016 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’” (NIV)

Fasting and Prayer, Transformation; Divine Manifestation!

Matthew 6Fasting and prayer has become a monthly personal devotion for me but in the past sixteen days I participated in my church’s fast with purpose, discipline, sacrifice, and prayer to God seeking transformation, a renewed spirit, and growth. Yesterday was the last day of the fast.

Before I went to bed last night I positioned myself to indulge in sweets and meats as soon as the fast ended. I put a box of Junior Mints on my bed and knew which meat I was gonna eat at 12:01 am. However, I slept through the night, woke this morning and didn’t have a desire for any of it.

I prayed daily making my requests known to God. I may not have seen immediate results of my prayers during the fast but in my obedience, not my sacrifice, I still worshipped God. I learned fasting not only disciplines but it cleanses and removes the desire of a want for what we believe we need when in actuality we don’t. It is just a want.

We sacrifice. We are obedient. But somewhere during all that, we change. I call it growth. We become familiar with the unfamiliar where God moves us from comfortable and complacency out of our comfort zone to growth and transformation. It is what he calls us to do; grow.

Prayers may not yet have been answered and immediate results may not yet have occurred but are already taking place in the spiritual realm. Spiritually, inside we change. We grow. We draw closer to God. Amazing!

Some things will not go out by prayer alone but by fasting and prayer. You may not see change immediately, but something is already happening spiritually. And the breakthrough will not happen until God knows you’re ready for it. It’s coming. Thank you Jesus!

Now I’m ready for what’s next. Transformation before elevation. I hope you are too. Growth. This is what fasting and prayer will do for you.

Fasting and prayer, Transformation; Divine Manifestation!

Matthew 6:17-18 “But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” (ESV)

Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You

wpid-textgram_1389895655.pngOne of the hardest things as a Christian is to overcome evil intentions of others with kindness and humility. We can’t let it get to us or make the decision to be unloving to others as a result of unforgiveness. We must not give in to the enemy’s devious plan. Pray for them. Stand.

Some people think Christians are infallible and not human too. We may minister but sometimes we need someone to minister to us too. I’m not perfect, nor you. We make mistakes and lose focus even when we know we’re not supposed to.

People will hurt and sin against us. And we may sin against them too. What will make the difference are the choices we make after we’ve done what we were not supposed to do. Either we will choose to stay in it and do as the evildoer do. Or we will choose to repent, seek forgiveness, and do what we know God is calling us to do.

We may stumble but mustn’t live a lifestyle of unrepentant sin. As a believer, we are to be consistent in how we choose to live. There’s a level of comfort we may become accustomed to and will stay in it thinking it’s enough. God will take us out of our comfort zone because he has our best interest at heart.

We can’t live with regrets. We must not focus on what we should have or could have done living with regrets. Ask God for forgiveness. Work to do better so that when the time comes. You know it was by God’s grace you were able to overcome. Our God is gracious, merciful, forgiving. God promises in his word our sins have already been forgiven. Forgive those who have sinned against you. Forgive yourself. God will forgive you.

We must focus on the here and right now. If you don’t know how, ask God to show you how. When you pray and think God is not listening because things didn’t turn out as you wished. Hold on. God hears the prayers of the righteous. Pray and not only ask God to show you what to do, but be willing to sacrifice and make it a priority to do exactly what he instructs you to do. No matter what, God’s Will will be done. Seek God. Let His will, not your will, be done.

When you’re born of God, you will choose not to make a practice of sinning. You’re saved and not just pretending. Change your mindset. Reach new heights in God. When he presents opportunities to elevate you, be open. Come out of your comfort zone.

Do self-examination in times of testing when the enemy plans an attack against you. See if Jesus Christ is in you. Test yourself to see if you’re saved. Test whether you are in the faith. “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you–unless, of course, you fail the test?” (2 Co 13:5)

No matter what people may do to you. Or how right they think they may when sinning against God or trying to hurt you. Look to God for the answer. Follow his example. Abide in Christ, and he abide in you. Without him, you cannot bear fruit. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Be blessed! -JD

Ephesians 1:17-18 “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.” (NIV)

I’m Grateful for All I’ve Been Through. How About You?

The other day I sat in admiration, thanking God for all I’ve been through. My life may not have been what I wanted it to be but I’m assured it was God’s grace that kept me and brought me through.

As I began to reflect on the many years I have struggled and fought to maintain, I began to think about what I concluded as the reason God needed me to be in the seasons at the times I found myself in. If I were to look at my circumstances, I would always be in tears. I’m so glad I serve a mighty God. He gives me courage to face my fears. I can’t help but to give glory and honor to God. Praise the Lord!

We all will go through a season in life that will bring insurmountable challenges we may never understand. wpid-textgram_1389925148.pngHold on to God’s unchanging hands. Sometimes the path of righteousness will not be smooth and will not be easy to do. Know that you are not alone. God is with you. If you sat and thought about everything that isn’t going right in your life and compared yourself to ones who seem like everything is perfect. It’s misleading. You’re not looking in the right place. Look to God outside your circumstances. His way is perfect.

God sends trials to us to test our faith in him. Either we will choose to trust ourselves and do things our way or have faith and wait on him. Trials and tests are meant to challenge our faith. Challenges are meant to help us grow while we wait.

For everything there’s a time and a season. It is for God’s purpose. Every person you meet and every experience you encounter occurs for a reason. He’s preparing you for your future. God is refining you. He is perfecting the spiritual gifts in you.

God does everything according to his timing. You may think you have it all figured out according to your plan but it will work in his time. God does amazing things. Let your witness be about what Christ has done and not about your abilities and what you’ve done. Glorify his name. No matter the season you may be going through, wait on God. He’ll bring you through.

I’m grateful for all I’ve been through. How About You?

Be blessed! -JD

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. 2 A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest.” (NLT)

Wheat or Chaff? God Knows Best

Matthew 13I was on my way home leaving my sister’s house yesterday when the bus stopped in the middle of the street for some odd reason and was sitting in the street. Before taking off, I heard this voice that sounded familiar and looked up to see my sister’s friend who is also my friend that we call our sister at my sister’s house urging me to turn back around and come back to the house. Of which I did. Not realizing this particular event would be a time where God would send revelation, affirmation, and out of an unusual circumstance will come confirmation.

My twin sister’s husband passed earlier in the week and I had been visiting with her the past few days. Our sister friend had been over to the house the day before and promised to return the next day with a prepared meal for my sister but I had not seen her while I was there and thought she had changed her mind in coming.

I gathered my things and went back to my sister’s house. We sat and talked about odd things when somehow she began to talk about a vision God gave her regarding a business she foresaw and is currently moving forward with. After hearing her wonderful account of God’s promise for her future, we had a long talk about my current business endeavor.

I expressed to her and her husband my fears and the things that are keeping me bound that I feel is contributing to my inability to be confident God is with me in this journey. She began to pour into my spirit affirmation and confirmation of God’s promises in my life. She gave me so much courage, insight, and inspiration in her provision of the tools I would need to get started and even offered to help me along the journey with no expectations or rewards and expressed she is doing it simply because of her love for God and her desire to glorify God.

Then something struck me. God placed her in my path unsuspectingly because there was something he needed to reveal to me. Something he needed me to know. And by his grace I was in the right place at the right time. For which I am thankful.

You see, after careful reflection, I realized after years of trials, struggles, and tribulations, God had to sit me down alone to get my attention before preparing me for the journey ahead. As well as separate the wheat from chaff in order to do his work. He began separating me from things and people that he felt were no longer required in this season of my life in order that I may effectively serve him and live an abundant life.

I also had to learn in this season that I could no longer live life in the flesh even when warring against the spirit. Something had to die in order that something may live. And it was me. I had to die to my flesh in order that Jesus may live in me. “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me” (Gal 2:20). And during this time I found that my relationship with God has changed and I am growing spiritually and closer to Jesus.

Yes, I may have gone through trials and mental anguish and I may have suffered through some things but it was during this time God was taking me through a process. My faith was being tested and through the test I had to make a decision to which direction I would go, either separate myself from the things that would separate me from God or God would separate things from me he knew would separate me from Him in order that I may produce the fruit of righteousness in my life and grow spiritually. Assured nothing and no one will ever separate me from God because I live by the Spirit and the Spirit lives in me. I chose to live God’s way and live life more abundantly.

I also believed God needed me to learn to be patient as I waited on him, not get weary in well-doing and do not give up, for in due season I shall reap a harvest of blessings should I faint not. I began to sit in awe and admiration of God thanking him for all I’ve been through, no matter how long I have been going through. As I began to reflect on the many years I have struggled and fought to maintain, I began to think about how awesome God is. He reigns! I concluded there was a reason God needed me to be in the seasons I found myself in at the times I found myself in because it was necessary. It was all for his glory.

We all will go through a season in life that will bring insurmountable challenges we may never understand. Yet hold on to God’s unchanging hands. Trials strengthen you. Tests refine you. Patience is a virtue. When your faith is tested God’s refining you. He’s perfecting the spiritual gifts in you. Trials and tests are meant to challenge your faith. Be encouraged! Challenges are meant to help you grow while you wait. Don’t give up. Wait on the Lord. Have faith. Wait I say, on the Lord.”

Next month will be the beginning of a new season in my life and I am looking forward to what God has in store for me. I love the Lord so much and in all I do I will give him glory! I’m claiming it. I’m naming it! I’m speaking it into existence. God said it. I believe it. That settles it! Thanks for listening.

Be blessed! -JD

Matthew 13:24-3024 Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared. 27 “The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’ 28 “‘An enemy did this,’ he replied. “The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’ 29 “‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’” (NIV)
