On Sunday many will celebrate the Easter holiday with family and friends, sharing Easter eggs, Easter dinner, and chocolate bunny rabbits. Some will be dressed in pastel colored clothes and watch children enjoy candy-filled Easter baskets.
For believers, the real reason why we celebrate the day; our Lord Jesus Christ was resurrected. It is the miraculous event. He is risen! Celebrate his resurrection! For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
Jesus was forced to bear his own cross. With nail-scarred hands, they nailed him to and hung him between two thieves on the cross. He was persecuted and beat. He was wounded; nails were driven through his feet. They placed a crown of thorns on his head. They pierced his side later to make sure he was dead. He shed his blood. He was crucified, nailed to the cross. He sacrificed his life, buried and nailed all our sins to the cross.
They buried him in a tomb. A large stone was placed in front to seal it. Soldiers stood on guard to watch over it. An angel rolled back the stone. On the third day Jesus rose. An angel announced on the third day Jesus was no longer in the tomb. They told them to go and see for themselves. When they went to see, Jesus met and greeted them. And they came up and took hold of His feet and worshiped Him. (Matthew 28:9)
This is what the day, Easter Sunday, is truly about; our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was crucified, died, and rose again for atonement of our sins. He knew he would suffer… “and He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem’” (Luke 24:46-47).
He knew his Father’s will and laid down his life for us. He paid the price on the cross for us. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve others, and to give His life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45).” As you celebrate Easter, celebrate what Christ did for us. He took our punishment. He died for us. Rejoice! Christ loves us.
His resurrection is so important. Celebrate not just today. Celebrate Jesus’ resurrection every day. He is risen! Celebrate Jesus Christ our Savior!
Be blessed! -JD
Matthew 28:5-7; 9 “5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. 6 “He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. 7 “Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you.”… 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said.
