To My Father on Father’s Day

Dad, I called you this morning.
I thought of you today.
I think of you often even though you are far away.
As I do every day, not just on Father’s Day.
Every day I wonder how you’re doing.
I pray for you every day.

We may be miles apart.
I may not see you much.
But I know I can depend on you when life gets tough.
I love you. Nothing can ever take your place.
In my heart you always will have a special place.

I may have been raised by my mother as a single parent years down the line.
But nothing will ever replace the love I have for you.
When I called you were there, right on time.
You’ve been there for me through the good and bad.
You taught me things I could not have learned from my mother but only from my Dad.

I remember when I graduated from college twice you weren’t one to fly.
But you were the first one to walk off the plane full of joy and pride.
At my graduation words could not express how proud you were of me.
As you stood in the aisle, with a smile on your face, and blocked the view
Of others who couldn’t see.

You are my role model.
You taught me how to be strong.
You taught me the importance of education.
And assured me I didn’t have to fit in to belong.

You always told me to keep my “eyes on the prize”
To make decisions not based on ignorance, but to be strong and wise
When I found trouble lurking, your words motivated me.
You are intelligent.
You were driven and a hard-worker.
You inspired me.

You taught me the value of life.
You instilled encouragement and inspiration.
You cemented in me the value of obedience and dedication.
You were one-half of another person God sent, my mother, who gave me life.
I thank you both in admiration for your sacrifice.

You told me to be the best I could be.
In essence, I am a replica of you, a “mini-me.”
I’m thankful you taught me how to appreciate who I am and be me.
I’m fearless, confident, smart, and intelligent.
These are some of the things I have you to thank for it.

You’re my …..             Friend, a father, a foe who set the foundation for many things
You’re       …..              Audacious, not afraid of anything
I hold on to  ….           Treasured memories that stood the test of time
My   ………….               Heart will always belong to you until the end of time
I appreciate ….           Everything you do
I honor this day in… Remembrance of you

Happy Father’s Day Dad! I love you.

Signed,

Your daughter

What About The Children?

I heard someone say, “When children are young, they love us. When they become adults, they judge us.”

As parents, we make mistakes but we should not be held responsible for them the rest of our lives. I believe, no matter what, this is what children must adhere to.

Exodus 20:12 “Honor your father and your mother so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”

“This is the first commandment with a promised attached. To honor your parents is to speak well of them and politely to them. To act in a way that shows them courtesy and respect (but not to obey them if this means disobedience to God). Follow their teachings and example of putting God first. Parents have a special place in God’s sight. Even those who find it difficult to get along with their parents are still commanded to honor them” (LASB – notes Exodus 20:12).

And this is what we must remind ourselves of every day even when they grow old, become adults and move away; because one day we will be grandparents to, our children’s children we are to guide too.

Children are blessings.
They are precious gifts sent from God above.
Cherish their presence.
They are for us to nurture and love.

Remember it is up to you.
Make your child’s life worth living.
Lead by example in the things you do.

Lead them in the right path.
Influence them in the right ways.
And they will remember it all their days.

Teach your child to follow God’s commands and laws.
We must not withhold it but discipline them in love.

Even though it may seem unpleasant
Let the punishment fit the crime in their defense.
Administer it to commensurate with the offense.

They may stray from the Word as they get older.
But your guidance at some point will carry them over.
They will have no choice but to come back to it.
The very thing of God you imparted them with.

No matter how young or old, direct them to God.
Teach them about God and his truth.
Teach them how to obey and follow his rules.

God instructs us how to discipline.
The Bible says it is what we are required to do.
We are to impart God’s wisdom and truth.

We have a responsibility to one another to approach in love.
Children are to respect and love their parents in spite of.
They are to honor in spite of unfairness.
We are to care and love them in spite of disobedience.

Remember, children are God’s reward.
They are precious gifts sent from God above.
Savor every moment that you can.
Cherish and embrace them.
Put their lives in God’s hands.

My 6 year old grandson said “We all have guardian angels. They take care of us and they actually watch whatever we do. And they go to their guardian place to protect us because they are right behind us regardless whether we are good or bad. They are our guardian angels.” He is a wise young man. In the words of a proud grandmother, I say “Amen.”

Children are wise beings and are very sensitive to their surroundings. They can sense when something is amiss. They are sensitive to negative bias. And can be influenced by it. Foster an environment that influences positive, not negative, behavior. It can lay the foundation for positive or negative development in a child sooner or later.

Make it “About the Children.”

Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.”

God, I Appreciate You

Spent some time in deep conversation with God sharing my sincere gratitude for the things he’s doing in my life. Thankful for every experience.

The journey I’ve traveled in the last few years hasn’t been easy but was necessary. I didn’t understand it then, but I do now. God I thank you.

Times of sorrow consumed me as I cried out in agony only to see God’s reveal in each experience as preparation of the promise to fulfill his purpose.

God restored me. Even when I couldn’t see his plan for me. I’m better. I’m stronger. I’m wiser. I may not be what Im supposed to be but glad I’m not what I used to be.

My relationship with God has changed. Humility is part of my daily regime. My soul is free. I’m slowly becoming the person he declared I’ll be.

All I’ve been through was part of God’s plan. To refine the person He says I am. Thank you God for perfecting me. I won’t take for granted the life you’ve given me.

I’ll run and not walk in humility. To fulfill the assignment you’re prepared for me. I’m thankful. Words can’t explain. I praise your Holy name. Thank you Jesus! I love you Lord!
