A Right Heart Before God. That’s What Giving Is All About

Right Heart Before God JoaynnOftentimes when I reflect on giving from the heart, I’m reminded of this “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).

No amount of giving can ever compare to to the heart and mind of Christ. God is not concerned with what we give or how much we give but rather how we give from what we have. It is not the amount of giving that is important when we give from the heart but it is the attitude we will have in our giving. Giving and enabling are two different things. Know the difference.

Giving does not require a public service announcement. Nor does it deserve recognition to validate who you are. Silence is golden. Let the work you do for the Lord speak for itself. As long as God knows your heart it doesn’t matter what the world thinks of you. Give as he gives and it will come back to you. Give cheerfully and not reluctantly or out of obligation. Because that is not a cheerful giver.

The heart is a depository for good and evil. What comes out of the mouth flows from the heart. Choose your words wisely. Speak life and not death. Giving generously and joyfully pleases God. Don’t be concerned with what pleases others.

When you know what you know about God and he knows the condition of your heart, be at peace. God knows your heart. Giving is not an obligation. It’s not a requirement to give. It is a demonstration of the heart. It is not done to affirm what people think of us.

The amount you give or who you give doesn’t impress God. Your heart must be right when you give. Give with an attitude of gratitude. Be willing to give with the right heart. It pleases God.

A right heart before God. That’s what giving is all about.

Be blessed! – JD

2 Corinthians 8:11-12 “So now finish doing it as well, so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have. 12For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.” (ESV)
