Okay Bird Box Netflix Fans, You Got My Attention. I watched the movie! Boy I tell Ya…Intrigued I Was… And Of Course I Found a Message In It

Shifting Seasons JoaynnSo, after seeing countless posts on the #BirdBox movie on Netflix I decided to watch it last night and for any of you that know me know I am one to find a spiritual message or lesson in everything that applies to life be it a movie, a commercial, vacation, event, etc. I am an analyzer, deep thinker okay lol.

While I cannot speak for the audience this movie intended to serve or its purpose, what I am assured of, there was a clear message or take away for many like myself. Here’s my thought. First and foremost, thinking it was a horror movie which I don’t watch, ever, I was prepared to be terrified and stop watching moments in but I wasn’t and I didn’t. Surprisingly, I was intrigued.

From the beginning as I noticed Sandra Bullock and her children blindfolded not yet knowing the reason why, I couldn’t help but think how many of us go through life with blinders on (not literally) unprepared for death until something forces us to make an emergency decision, when sadly, it may be too late. Something to think about.

Now notice, Sandra’s character had never looked at the news so she was not aware of or prepared for the catastrophe of sudden death of humanity by this unsuspecting “evil” force that was headed their way. Hmm…sounds familiar? Much like many of us who may be unprepared for the second coming of Jesus and lack knowledge of God’s word but may scramble to be saved at the last minute, when sadly it will be too late.

Is it safe to say she lived a carefree life as she lived in the moment, in the here and now and not looked towards the future? I don’t know. I’m just assuming but what I am certain of many of us live this way without a plan or a process, unprepared to live an eternal life. We’re okay with average as long as we still have life.

Now I don’t want to give away much of the movie or the ending so I’ll say this. When death came knocking at her door, she ran to a place of the unknown, in unfamiliar territory, with people she did not know to save herself and her unborn child. They were safe and could only take the blinders off inside to be shielded from the darkness of evil lurking outside. Much like the dark world we as believers live in filled with evil forces that surround us but Jesus, the light of the world lives inside and protects and guides us.

Survival for the moment was predicated on a chance they had to take blindfolded, travel outside the unknown, but be guided by a GPS system that would lead them to their destination not knowing if they would arrive safely. Like us, as God navigates us through the unknown, not knowing how we will get where we’re going but we hold on to faith, the substance of things hoped for, evidence of things unseen because we believe God is who he says he is; I AM That I AM.

Lastly, what I noticed was how evil forces with familiar voices cried out to, chased down, persuaded, and lured outsiders to give in to temptation and look at them or take the blinders off only to meet with an untimely death they were not prepared for. Yet if they had ignored the voices, like the enemy tries to plant inside our heads, and not given in to temptation, they probably would have not suffered as much and may have reached the place of peace, safety, and comfort if they had been better prepared for it. Sounds familiar?

I won’t say anything else but I will leave you with this. Watch the movie if it moves you to do so or take your thought process a little deeper and think about how this applies to your life and what you would have done or what you are doing to prepare to meet Jesus when your times comes. Blessings!

Happy Resurrection Sunday! He is not here. He has risen!

He is Risen! Celebrate the SaviorJesus was crucified. He was resurrected from the dead. On the third day he rose. He did as he promised. He is not here. He has risen! (Luke 24:6).

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life, He who believes in me will live, even though he dies, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this? Yes, Lord, she told him, “I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world” (John 11:25-27). How wonderful is this assurance and certainty to those who believe. “Because I live, you will also live” (John 14:19).

Jesus went to prepare a place for the faithful. Celebrate the Savior. He will return one day and bring us to our place with him in the place he has prepared for us in heaven. “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am” (John 14:3).

Celebrate Christ’s resurrection not just once a year but every day. Because of the resurrection, He gave us victory over sin and death. Death is not the end. Life after death is promised. Isn’t that Good News! We too will be raised from the dead to live forever with Christ Jesus.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him (John 3:16-17).

Happy Resurrection Sunday!

Matthew 28:5-7; 9 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. 6 “He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying. 7 “Go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead; and behold, He is going ahead of you into Galilee, there you will see Him; behold, I have told you.”… 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. Which Family Line Do You Belong To?

Today of all days I woke up with feelings of despair. I confess I am a Christian and oftentimes must look outside circumstances, assured God is there.

But I have days when I feel like life doesn’t seem fair. I am not one to hide my feelings. Nor am I one to sugar coat things. Don’t know if that’s a bad or a good thing. Especially if I’m trying to inspire, but there are times when I must be honest with myself because I too need to be inspired. I also feel we must be honest with God because he already knows what will transpire.

Thoughts began to fill my head. Found myself asking these questions, “What do you do when you feel like all is lost? Your body’s spent. Your mind’s confused. All hell breaks loose. You’re lost. Why life as a Christian can be so hard? What is it God expects from you when the perils of life bring suffering you cannot avoid?”

We may even ask, “What does it mean when we hear people say, ‘I gave my life to Christ and relinquished my old ways.’” I am a new creature in Christ. Christ is in me. I’ve changed my life. I know it will come with sacrifice. “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me…” (Galatians 2:20). I am a child of God. It is the power of God that works within me.

What it tells us is that they are steadfast in their obedience and commitment to God, even in the battle of their life. They are repentant. They change and will not desire to do the wrong things but what is right. They are truly sorry for their sins. And will repent to God for past sins.

Yet, when we encounter attacks of the enemy, thoughts begin to occupy our mind. God has already set the blueprint since before the beginning of time. We are in a battle with Satan, who will do everything in his power to distract us from the plan. But our fate is all in God’s hands. Although it will seem like it’s the hardest battle fought. If we are serious about glorifying God, we must be conscious of the fact that it will come at a cost.

The enemy will take every chance he can get to redirect us to a path of destruction. We are to not heed to his instruction. He knows our weaknesses. God knows our strengths. God will give us endurance to overcome in victory, not matter how tired we are or spent.

We may feel like we’ve lost everything because of struggles, trials, and tribulations we’ve faced. Since oftentimes life does not come with specific directions or a DIY book to be manually used to make it through the day. We are to rely on the Word of God for instructions to do things he desires his way. His Word instructs and guides us for such a time as this. Don’t let the enemy take foothold. God’s Word will protect you. The enemy will flee and resist.

Life will cause us to lose many things. We may lose cars, houses, jobs, children, loved ones; simply anything or everything. The list can go on and on. If we are to look at our circumstances we will lose sight, because these things are temporary in the fight for our life. Christ offers the hope of eternal life if we are born into him. With him, we can overcome and can live above sin.

“Christ offers us an opportunity to be born into his spiritual family – the family life that begins with forgiveness and leads to eternal life. If we do nothing, we have death through Adam, but if we come to God by faith, we have life through Christ. Which family line do you now belong to?” (Romans 5:15-19).

We may have trials, tribulations, and struggles. We may suffer. But we mustn’t take our eyes off the prize; God. God knows our struggles. He will not give us more than we can bear. Cast your fears upon him. He will be there. You may be lost. God will heal you. He will never forsake you. The Lord is your strength and will guide you. The Lord is your shepherd, you are his sheep. His Divine Providence will keep you in perfect peace. Every trouble he will guide you. Every obstacle you face. God has an answer and a solution that your fears may be erased.

Yes, being a Christian may not be an easy way of life. Don’t be discouraged. Remember the promises of God and his Son Jesus’ sacrifice. It is not about us but is about our life in God. Eternal life is a gift. Jesus paid a high price to offer it.

No matter what you may be going through, know that God is there for you. Be obedient. Remain steadfast in your commitment as a Christian. We are in a spiritual battle with the enemy who’s trying to thwart God’s mission. Follow God’s calling in your life. Don’t give in to confusion or strife. The battle is not ours, it’s the Lord’s. In your struggle, give it all to God.

Therefore, when I am troubled, I will remember this. It is the God to whom I belong, the God that will stand beside me. It is God I will serve. With God’s help, I am a born-again Christian, navigating my way through life. I’ve accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I am repentant. I come to God by faith. I am a part of God’s family. I am blessed and highly favored.

John 1:12-13 ESV “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”
