October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October Breast Cancer Awareness MonthPlease forgive me for such a late post but I made it with two days to spare before October Breast Cancer Awareness Month ends. Many across the nation launched campaigns and walks where everyone was invited to participate and show support during the month of October to increase awareness. The National Race for the Cure and Susan G. Komen 3 Day “For the Cure” are to name a few. There a number of resources, referral agencies, and support groups available to provide emotional support in the journey.

About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. (U.S. Breast Cancer Statistics). While breast cancer in males is rare, let’s not forget to honor and show support for them as well, who either have been diagnosed, are going through treatment, or have survived breast cancer.

There are also male breast cancer advocacy groups Out of the Shadow of Pink, A Man’s Pink, and the Brandon Greening Foundation for Breast Cancer in men who join together globally to establish the third week of October as “Male Breast Cancer Awareness Week” (National Breast Cancer Awareness Month). Please show your support.

“If you learn that you have breast cancer, you may find it helpful to talk with someone who has already been through breast cancer. The American Cancer Society has a Reach To Recovery® Program,” which is “available in most communities, and is one of many programs that may help you. This program can put you in touch with a woman who has been diagnosed with and treated for breast cancer. To talk with or receive a visit from a Reach To Recovery volunteer, call your local American Cancer Society office or 1-800-227-2345” (You are not alone: Getting emotional support).”

With early detection, treatment advances, screening, and increased awareness the incidence of death rates have decreased since 1989 (U.S. Breast Cancer Statistics). Any woman at or over the age of 40, I strongly urge you to make an appointment to have a mammogram. Develop a plan. Get tested early with mammogram screenings. Early detection can help with early prevention. Regular checkups will also aid in early prevention. It can save a life.

Each of us either know someone who suffers from, lost the battle with, or is a survivor of breast cancer. Celebrate loved ones, relatives, and friends who have lost the fight as well as those who have survived. As well as those who are going through treatment. Show your support in honor of those who lost their lives in the fight and are no longer with us. Honor those who survived the fight and are living testimonies who have overcome and are still with us. Please know that you are not alone. We are here for you. You are more than conquerors. You won. You are a breast cancer survivor.

Donate your time. Volunteer. Simply wear pink or a pink ribbon during the month of October. Together we can make a difference.

As for me, I wear pink for someone special to inspire hope and love. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, join in the fight, be a source of support, empower, and inspire.

Be blessed! -JD

Happy International Women’s Day! Girl Power is in Effect. Ladies, Let’s “Make It Happen!”

20150308082441To every woman that has empowered, influenced, and inspired positive change and continue to break barriers for women across the nation, “Thank You” for making it happen.

Thank you to all the role models that encouraged and set the foundation to empower women to be the best they can be. Celebrate yourself. Be the best you can be. To every survivor of domestic violence, rape, molestation, sexual abuse, sexual assault, and human trafficking, we love you. Know that we support you and we are here for you.

We celebrate those that came before us, pioneers of change, others who paved the way for us. Thank you for believing in us. Let’s not only be a voice but do something to ignite change. Let’s “Make It Happen!”

The world needs to know we are alive and well. They need to know that #WomenLivesMatter. We still face major obstacles. There’s still work to do. Violence against women, not enough women in leadership roles, and lack of accommodations in the workplace for working mothers, just to name a few. Do your part. Come together and work to change policies that we may have an equal voice in things that matter to us.

Let your voice be heard. Step up to the plate. Raise awareness to issues that continue to negatively affect and impact our well-being. Be confident and hopeful in the fight to eradicate gender bias. Speak out against things that continue to work against us. We are the voice of change. Be the change you want to see. Make a difference.

Women, we make a difference. We are fearfully and wonderfully made. There’s nothing man can do to stop us. Encourage one another, embrace your uniqueness. Empower women across the nation. Continue to make a lasting impression. Be a blessing!

Ladies, We Rock!! We are one voice. Let’s “Make It Happen!”

Happy International Women’s Day!

Be blessed! –JD

All It Takes is Three Simple Words – Tell Someone “God Loves You” and “I Do Too!” Be A Blessing

wpid-img_20140804_072010.jpg

Each of us have a testimony. We are all going through something. We may not be going through the same thing, but we are all burdened with something. Nothing is too hard for God. Cast all your cares upon the Lord.

A simple thought, kind gesture, hug, or simple words of inspiration or encouragement can touch the life of a person you may not know. Be a blessing to someone, wherever you may go. It doesn’t matter what you are going through, work to inspire, motive, encourage, and bless others as God blesses you.

We don’t know what others are going through. There’s someone fighting a battle harder than you. Tell someone, “God loves you and I do too.” Thank you.

Be blessed! -JD

Romans 8:35-39  “35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (ESV)

Don’t Defeat My Progress Because of My Pain. Let Your Words Help Me to Heal and Feel Whole Again

wpid-textgram_1399515461.pngGod knows all about us and still blesses us. In spite of our flaws, he still loves us. Yet there are those who have seen us at our worse and know all about our past. But sometimes fail to understand the impact of their words when trying to console us when in pain.

And will use our past as a crutch and at the same time speak words of encouragement. For some, it is not always intentional even when it seems inappropriate. It can mean that they really do not understand how negative mixed with positive may affect us. Not realizing how much their words hurt us.

When a person who is in pain reaches out to another, their hope is to be healed, feel whole again, and find comfort. Yet we must know the difference and not confuse comfort with negative criticism. Or confuse pain with defeating progress. Because what it will do is crush that person’s spirit and may cause them to stagnate their own progress. Some will comfort and criticize at the same time. Because it’s the person they choose to be at that time. Not realizing at that point it defeats the purpose, especially when someone needs to get past their hurt when hurting.

When someone is hurting, words of encouragement are meant to heal with good intentions. Not to be replaced with words that will hurt them and remind them of their past afflictions. Opinions matter but they do not count. When secure in whom you are you will erase all doubt. Criticism at first will look like defeat and may cause you to go on the defense. Quickly reminding yourself you mustn’t take offense. It is then and only then after much careful thought, you realize you could have handled it differently and in the future will work to not give it much thought.

Don’t get me wrong, criticism when constructive can sometimes make you stronger. But you must be careful of the appropriate time to use it and not at a time when consoling others. Or at a time when you know mentally and emotionally, there is something wrong. Discern the difference between right and wrong.

Unkind, thoughtless words hurt once they leave the mouth. Be careful with the words that come out of your mouth. Death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Your words are a reflection of your thoughts and who you are and have become. Make sure your words in a split moment of conversation inspire and not tear down. Let your opinions be wise and spiritually sound. Be kind, loving, empathetic, and sincere. Don’t use the past at any time to remind someone of the place they find themselves now  is why they are there.

The greater level of comfort you have with yourself will make it that much easier to deflect criticism, and not let it hinder your progress. Only to use it as a positive force to remind you of the person you have matured into. While celebrating the past you left behind you.

Don’t defeat my progress because of my pain. Let your words of comfort be positive to help me heal and feel whole again. Don’t confuse comfort with negative criticism when supporting someone in their time of need. Build them up. Let your words be positive words of wisdom. Indeed!

Be blessed! -JD

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 “3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ. Simple Words of Wisdom

After suffering a significant number of headaches in addition to acute flare ups of Fibromyalgia symptoms the past few weeks, today is the first day in a long time I’ve managed to collect my thoughts with a few random sayings and feel well enough to transfer a few words of wisdom from my head to the place you are now reading in order to create a post. Each saying is not in any particular order and came off the top of my head. Thought I’d share before I lay down my head. Enjoy!

wpid-textgram_1386018284.pngNew you. New attitude. Make it that when people see you they’re confused. Throw them off when you react differently; they will see the new you and no longer see the “old me.”

Stop relying on people to embrace or validate you. They may say or do things to hurt you. You’re beautiful in God’s eyes. His word is truth. Love those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Be good to those who despise you. For those who don’t like you say, “God bless you.” No matter how people may treat you, God will take care of you. They’re not in control of your destiny. With God on your side, you win.

As seasons change, is the same reason God allows seasons to change. God uses circumstances to speak to you. The devil is a liar! God got you! Lot’s wife looked back when told not to and turned to a pillar of salt. Don’t look back on the past only to kill your future. Press forward.

Be careful who you surround yourself with. The devil comes in sheep’s clothing. Everybody that’s praying with you ain’t praying for you. Satan will find his way into any situation to gain victory. You don’t have to wait until the battle is over to shout. With God fighting your battles, you’ve got the victory!

Simple words of wisdom…

Be blessed! –JD

Ephesians 4:22-24 “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” (NIV)
