Calling All Prayer Warriors, Please Say a Prayer

Our Thoughts And Prayers Are With You #2I know this picture looks familiar but with all that is going on in the world with yesterday’s senseless tragedy where 17 innocent people were killed in Parkland, Florida, I couldn’t help but share a revised copy of this post again today. In remembrance of those who have lost loved ones, to let them know we’re thinking of and praying for them.

There are times when I can’t look at the news and find myself far removed from things that trouble me. But yesterday was a day I couldn’t help but hear and see news of yet again unspeakable tragedy that took the lives of innocent people in Parkland, Florida. Now my heart is saddened and my soul has been stirred and shaken.

Once again tragedy has struck and taken lives of the innocent. God, I know I mustn’t ask when it all will end, because some things will continue to happen because of the fallen world we live in. I can’t keep up with all that’s going on in the world. The best thing I can do is pray for the loss of innocent souls. As well as those whose mind may have left momentarily because of the enemy, who may have convinced them only to confuse them that their life and the life of others needed to end.

Father, please forgive them for they know not what they do. Father, I ask that you cover them because of what they unknowingly may have done to hurt others and disobey you. I pray for the families who are now left behind bewildered and distraught, trying to figure out what happened to bring about this tragic time.

My prayers are with the victims and families of senseless tragedies and violent storms that continue to occur across the nation. God send strength, comfort, peace, and healing in light of devastation. Jesus, be a fence. May the blood of the Lamb protect them. I pray for strength of families who have lost loved ones, no matter the circumstance which they’ve lost loved ones. God calm the troubled waters of those who will cry endlessly, because of pain felt so deeply. Heal the hearts of those who may feel distraught, because of a void that has left a hole in their hearts. Peace be still. Heal their hearts.

God I know you are healer. You are a strong tower. You are God Almighty in every waking hour. Surround the homes of every family and friend. Dispatch angels of mercy to cover them. Your grace is sufficient no matter the tide. Let the hearts of those affected by tragedy be healed in the face of those who have been hurt, who are lost, or who have died. You are God all by yourself. For every family across the nation you are a present help. This is my prayer I pray. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Here’s a candle and a comforting scripture to let you know across the nation we are saying a prayer and thinking of you. We are praying for you.

Calling all prayer warriors, please say a prayer. Light a candle. Let them know God is there. Say a prayer for every family and victim across the nation everywhere. “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (Matt 18:20). God hears the prayers of the righteous. May the peace of God be with them.

Be blessed. –JD

No Matter the Situation, Trust God. Declare In Your Weakest Moments, Yet Will I Trust Him

wpid-img_20150320_200055.jpgSometimes, to find your own peace, you have to make the decision to remove yourself from the equation and let God do what he knows best. You have to decide what to add or subtract from your life that serves no purpose.

God promises it will work for the greater good. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28)

I have been traveling what I find is one of the most difficult, confusing, lengthy journeys I have ever encountered in my life. I have been through many things and can count the times I have faced adversity, questionable trials, and unexpected tribulations hindering my ability to move forward. However, in this particular season of my life, I cannot even begin to explain or understand the depth of my journey and at times question my worthiness. While I know it’s never for me to understand all that God does, yet will I trust Him.

I probably say this more often than most so please excuse me. I have to be honest with myself. Every day I struggle with giving up and going back to what is familiar. I say to myself, it’s easier to give in and settle. But when I sit and do nothing, it doesn’t feel right. I just cannot sit and do nothing. I feel out of place. I cannot settle being comfortable or complacent. God chose me. I cannot go back to way it used to be.

It is then I realize when I am discouraged or frustrated, sometimes I have to get to a place where I sit in pure silence without any distractions to hear from God. And every time I talk about quitting or giving up, when I pray I must listen for that still small voice. God gives me a revelation letting me know he has a different plan. I must keep the faith and learn to be obedient.

God doesn’t want our sacrifice. He wants our obedience. What good are works if you don’t have faith? Honor God with obedience not your works. Without faith it’s impossible to please God. We must be obedient to the Spirit. Do what God tells you to do, and not what your will tells you.

In our deepest moments of pain and suffering when we can’t see God in anything, declare, yet will I trust Him. God is just a prayer away. Pray. God is always listening. He may not come when you want him but he’s always on time. Trust Him. He will answer.

Be blessed! –JD

We All Bleed the Same Blood. The Color Doesn’t Change. God is No Respecter of Persons – He Loves Us All the Same

I had the pleasure of watching and listening to what I thought was a powerful, thought-provoking video by Kaleo, one of my dearest friend’s son that spoke volumes to my heart. I had to share this beautiful message so that others may hear and be moved as I was, which ultimately will compel us to act and make a difference in this world. I also ask that you please feel free to share. http://youtu.be/o14eshpdTfY

When you listen to the words of this song, you will see that it clearly sends a powerful message to the things we are seeing in the world today; racial injustice, violence, inequality. The nation is divided, the stigma of racism still resonates. It is still prevalent. Domestic abuse and violence is ever-increasing. Please stop the violence. Be the change you want to see. Don’t let the color of skin infuse hatred and inequality. We should all be treated as equals.

We may look different, but the same blood runs through our veins. We all bleed the same blood. The color doesn’t change. God is no respecter of persons  (Acts 10:34). In His eyes we are all equal. Jesus Christ doesn’t change. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). God loves each and every one of us the same. Love your brothers and sisters just as he does.

I’m not the color of my skin. I may look different but I’m a human being. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, “Color has no barrier, no body, or no face. We mustn’t let the color of our skin be the cause of division or hate. We should love one another as God loves us.

The color of our skin shouldn’t matter because it doesn’t matter to God. We are all God’s children. He doesn’t discriminate. Nor should we. I pray we stop the violence and eliminate hate because of the color of our skin.”

“Every moment I think about it, I can’t help but to pray. Please stand in agreement with me and pray for peace amongst our nation. I know there are families hurting everywhere. I ask that we please put an end to racism, stop spewing hate, and end gun violence, any and everywhere. Hate or violence will not solve anything. Violence upon violence, racial divide, will only exacerbate the condition. It will only make matters worse. Peace is what we need that others may hear our voice.”

“It may seem like we have come a long ways in the fight for justice, peace, equality, and in our efforts to end racism. But sadly, we still have a long ways to go. It is far from over but I’m hopeful.

Take these words with you from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that I am sharing again today. Pray with me and pray with KaLeo. Pray for the nation. Pray for peace, justice, strength, and comfort in the wake of what we see happening not just today, but pray without ceasing every day.

Please feel free to share. Thank you.

Be blessed! -JD

“I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality… I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.” -Martin Luther King, Jr.

Look at Us – Grace Looks So Good on Us!

wpid-img_20140803_080045.jpg

God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness” (Gen 1:26). We are made in God’s image. His work was finished with a personal touch. Grace looks so good on us!

The gospel is for everyone. God’s grace offers salvation to everyone. We are taught to live godly. “It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,’ (Titus 2:12). Grace teaches about how we are to live. We make the gospel look good by the way we live.

We don’t complain. We do what grace tells us. Even though we can choose to conform, we don’t. We live for God. We renew our minds. We become transformed. We listen to Jesus.

Grace is not a merit system.  It’s not based on your works. It cannot be earned. It is a free gift from God, even when we truly don’t deserve it.

God made us in His image. He sees beyond our shortcomings. When we’re damaged and broken, God sees His creation, His image damaged and broken. We submit to the will of God with a desire to live a life completely for Him.

Grace looks on us. We wear it well. The devil’s mad as hell. God gave us another chance. His grace justified us. We’re at peace. Praise God! Grace looks good on us!

Be blessed! -JD

1 John 2:27 “As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.” (NASB)

What Matters?

What MattersWe were looking for some papers  today and stumbled upon some poems I wrote in my 2nd year of college at the ripe old age of 34, of which my English professor’s critique was pretty good.

What astounded me most was how the poems were a reflection of the emotions I was feeling at that point and time in my life in regards to people who either were suffering at no fault of their own or were struggling just to make it in this life.

Even more surprising is it appears much of what I felt then seems to have come full circle to the place where I am now in my life. It also tells me how passionate I was then and still am now about people and the world we exist in. Wow… I’ve come a long ways, twenty years to be exact, and I still care.  I still have a heart and passion for children, the sick, and people from all walks of life. Amazing!

Over the next few posts, in between my normal posts, I will step out of my comfort zone and share them with you. This will be the first of my “mini-series.” I hope you enjoy.

What Matters?

It doesn’t make a difference what color you are,
Because love should conquer all near or far
Nor does it make a difference why we are here
Because in the end we all have that fear
That death is evident and we all will die,
But what should matter are the blue skies and sun
And what we all can do to live together peacefully as one.

What matters is the air we breathe,
The starving people in this world we need to feed.
The precious meaning of life itself,
In whatever situation we find ourselves
The endless efforts to find a cure for AIDS,
Through benefits and charities with funds that are raised.

What matters is the opportunity we all share,
When we are healthy and alive,
Because with the way the world is today
It’s a never ending struggle to survive.
Life is what matters, so live it, love it, or leave it be
Because we are not here for eternity.

If The Devil is Picking On You, Rejoice! God is Setting You Up for a Greater Reward!

wpid-textgram_1394581638.pngWhen God has his hands on you and trouble beseech you in attempt to destroy your ministry, something in your spirit will not let you give in to it. The Word still will go forth because God will see to it.

The devil was alive and well during my trip home. He came at me from every angle and wouldn’t leave me alone. I went to God in deep meditation. I didn’t murmur a word. I sat and read God’s Word. I shared what He sent as a message for others to hear. The devil came at me full force. God took it from there.

For a moment, I became so frustrated and at that time made a hasty decision to stop ministering and witnessing to others on social media because I felt it was taking too much from my inner strength to deal with the conflict that continually surrounded me. All I wanted was peace. When in a fact, I did have peace. But my mind tried to convince me otherwise. The devil is the father of lies!

I told my friends and family, “I will be taking a sabbatical…in the next few days but wanted to express my sincere thanks to friends and family who have supported me in this journey. My hope is that God will continue to use me no matter where I may find myself that he may be glorified. I will keep each and every one of you in prayer and please continue to pray for me.”

A few days passed and something just would not let me go through with it. Knowing God had the final say in it. The Word still will go forth because God will see to it. This is what the devil wanted, to silence me. And thought he would win. I’m being set up for a greater blessing. Sorry devil… God wins! While I will not stop spreading the gospel or bring forth messages of inspiration and encouragement I know God has given me the ability to do. I will minimize my presence for the moment to spend some alone time with God, as he continues to reconcile and restore me. Until then, what I know is this:

God is loving, kind, merciful. He does not falter. He is perfect. Every good and perfect thing comes from Him. He is, “I AM WHO I AM” (Ex 3:14). People may disappoint you. They may never have your best interest at heart. God loves you. He will always have your best interest at heart. God is a good God. He’s faithful. His character does not change. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb 13:8). He never changes.

When you feel lost in a sea of brokenness, God will heal your wounds and restore you. God will bind up your wounds. He will heal your heart. Speak life into your situation that it may help you. People or the situation may never change but you can change in it. With God, he will change you in it. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act (Ps 37:4-5).

When you are going through and it seems like no one is there for you. God is. He will never forsake you. He’s always with you. There is someone somewhere fighting a battle harder than you or me. They are in a fight for their life, trying to make it. Pray for them. It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed (Dt 31:8). Know that God is with you always.

If the devil is picking on you, rejoice! God is setting you up for a greater reward!

Be blessed! -JD

Luke 6:22-2322 You are blessed when people hate you, when they exclude you, insult you, and slander your name as evil because of the Son of Man 23 Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! Take note–your reward is great in heaven, for this is the way their ancestors used to treat the prophets.” (HCSB)

My Offering For Healing and Peace – Tamela Mann “Take Me To The King”

This song serves as my inspiration today. The devil has been so busy, even as I share these words today. All week he’s been attacking my mind and working against me. To the point he’s trying his best to kill, steal, and destroy me. But I won’t let him get to me. I know God’s got me.

Even though I work to encourage, I too get tired. I’ve been sick and tired of being sick and tired. He’s made many attempts, trying to operate in my life. The devil is an adversary trying to convince me I am unworthy. Because he knows I have been  in despair, riddled with strife.

Satan tempts us when he knows we are going through. To see how much we trust God when we’re going through. But if we know God and we make it through. It is evidence our trust in God brought us through.

He catches us at our lowest point and thinks he will win. But he has no authority in our lives. God wins. Thankful God Is Faithful! We woke up on this side of heaven. We have a portion of our health and strength. His mercy endures forever.

I don’t know who this is for even though I know it’s for me, I pray this song helps someone to hold on no matter what the circumstance or the situation may be. I pray this song encourages you. Please let it inspire and lift you up. A song that may help to ease your heavy burdens no matter if you’re feeling distraught.

God is with us always. He knows and hears our prayers. I pray that he hears my plea in the words I share. That it may heal your heartache and pain. I pray for wholeness. Know that God is with you in spite of the pain.

You may not have much to bring to God. And come empty handed with empty faces. You may be broken in all your lonely places. With feelings of emptiness, feeling as if you don’t belong. The best I can offer you on this day is this song. It is a revelation to the pain I, as many others may be experiencing. And feel alone and cannot see God in anything. There’s no one to count on. But know that God is there. He is listening.

Take this song and use the lyrics as a source of hope no matter what you’re going through. Go to God, talk to him. Let it be between him and you. May your soul find rest. Listen to the words and a brief verse and chorus I included as Tamela Mann puts it best:

Take Me To The King
By Tamela Mann

Verse 1:

“Truth is I’m tired. Options are few. I’m trying to pray but where are you? I’m all churched out. Hurt and abused. I can’t fake. What’s left to do?

Chorus:

“Take me to the King. I don’t have much to bring. My heart’s torn into pieces. It’s my offering. Lay me at the throne. Leave me there alone. To gaze upon Your glory. And sing to You this song. “Take Me To The King.”

Now it’s time I end this in prayer and offer it to you today. I hope it helps someone, somewhere along the way. Be encouraged. God is behind, alongside, in front and behind you come what may.  I know because it has helped me get through this day. And now I feel better as I say:

“Father, I come against every attack of the devil. I bind the hands of the enemy. And even though we don’t deserve it, send your angels of grace and mercy. Count us worthy. Cancel every assignment. Remove anything that is not of you. Your Word is the only thing we can count on to make it through. We give all praise, honor, and glory to you. Right now, we claim the victory! It’s already done. No weapon formed against us shall prosper. Your Will will be done. I seal this prayer in Jesus name, Amen.”

This is my offering for peace and healing.

Be blessed! -JD

Deuteronomy 28:7 “The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. 8 “The Lord will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you. 9 “The Lord will establish you as a holy people to Himself, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in His ways.” (NKJV)

Listen To The Cry of A Silent Victim

I’m going off subject again today.
My mind’s scattered. Thoughts are all over the place.
I woke to some disturbing news the other day
And have not been able to sleep or shake it all week.
I tried to put it in the back of my mind, but something is not letting me.

It keeps surfacing in my thoughts so I must release it to clear my head.
Things like this cannot be left unsaid.

My heart is heavy laden.
An innocent teenager took his life the other day.
He sent a message on a well-known social media platform
Earlier that morning, that same day
No one paid attention.
All I could do was pray.

He posted a goodbye in the wee hours of the morning.
So it definitely was not a time during heavy traffic where it could not be noticed.
Sadly, there were many clicks on “likes” by his friends.
I’m confused. Why didn’t anyone see the warning signs then?

He seemed uneasy and restless. He blamed himself for the mess.
He apologized before whatever was planned by him to happen
Clearly during his time of distress.
He seemed unhappy, as tears welled in my eyes.
Then he ended the post and said goodbye.

My heart sank. Tears of sorrow filled my face as I cried.
It took all the strength I had to accept what I knew already happened. He died.
I know he either had parents or someone who cared about him
That could have been notified.
This child was clearly crying out for help before he took his life and died.

Social media has a massive process of notification for everything:
Mentions, promotional ads, retweets, even notice of ones who are trending.
Even more disturbing is how easy it is
For officials to track and catch potential culprits in a place like this.

But when it comes to things like this, sadly there’s no app for it.
Why isn’t there an alert to track key words of potential suicide victims?
Who may connect to lines to aid in suicide prevention?

My prayers are with this young man’s family.
My heart aches and is torn in pieces.
It hurts tremendously.
Words cannot express the sadness or pain I feel.
I pray for peace, comfort, strength; that his family may be healed.

While I cannot blame social media for the events that have occurred,
I can only hope that in the same way we use social media to spread the word.
Not only of events that matter most to us,
But place a greater significance on things such as this that should disturb us.

Not that we may find recognition or potential success.
But because it is imperative we find a way to take notice of things such as this.
In the hopes we may help save a life.
Assured it is not remiss but will help because of our sacrifice.

This child’s life may have been saved
Had someone taken responsibly and taken the time to carefully read his words
And took heed to his warning.
Instead of ignoring and acknowledging his effort by clicking “likes,”
When he silently cried out for help before ending his life.

Suicide is a serious issue oftentimes I feel we fail at recognizing; miserably.
We don’t take it seriously.
We ignore the warning signs after it’s too late.
If only someone will only listen to the cry of a silent victim before it is too late.

Let this be an example of what we can do
As a society to rightfully help potential suicide victims make it through,
In a platform that gets the most attention.
Use social media to your advantage, to get the right attention.

If we take heed to the warning signs when it comes to saving a life.
We can be the person that may help save a life.
Know that a cry out for help clearly calls for our attention.
Let social media not be just to gain potential followers,
But alert anyone that will listen.
Listen to the cry of a silent victim.

Thank you for listening. -JD

For more information on how you can help someone who may be suicidal on social media, please visit the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at http://www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org/GetHelp/Online.

God, I know you’re listening.
Please hear my prayers as I pray.
For the family and friends of those
that lost a loved one today.

Comfort them in their time of need.
Restore whatever strength they may have lost.
Help the family find peace.
Give them hope for tomorrow.
Assure them all is not lost.

God, I know the pain may be unbearable.
And it may be hard for them to overcome.
But I know you can and will help them get through this.
No matter how hard it may be for them. Let your will be done.

To be absent with the body is to be present with the Father.
Though, they will be sorely missed.
Bring the family to a place where they can receive joy in knowing this.
And understand they are in a better place and is no longer in pain.
They don’t have to cry another tear or feel sorrow ever again.

God may the family find rest in your arms.
Hold them safely in your hands.
Handle them with care.
Comfort them as only I know you can.
In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

Peace Be Still

“Peace, be still.
God, calm storms raged around and within us.
Open the floodgates of heaven.
Bestow mercy upon us.
Shower rain of blessings upon us.”

After this morning’s meditation and spending time with God, I reached for my phone to read notices I observed that were in queue from a social media friend who lives in Texas.

In anticipation of reading her messages to complete my happy morning as I always do because she never fails to send godly, inspiring words of wisdom and encouragement, I never would have imagined she was sending sad news.

To my surprise, it began with news of disaster which noted the powerful storm that hit North Texas last night leaving the city in devastation. There were 6 people killed, several injured, and hundreds left homeless. A storm, yet again, that left a mark of pain and devastation on the lives of a community who will never be the same.

After describing details of an uneventful act of nature, she briefly began to speak about storms in our lives and compared its similarity to the impact we experience when faced with storms of life.

I began to think, “Imagine what it is like to be in conflict when faced with storms that rage within us?” Where we search desperately for refugee in the hopes it would die down or go away and leave us. Only to find there’s no place to run or no place to go or hide. Much like ones whose homes were destroyed as a result of last night’s storm and are now are faced with seeking shelter in an unfamiliar place. But are to be thankful in spite of because of God’s grace?

In life we are faced with storms similar as this that may bring pain, sorrow, depression, or hopelessness. Feelings of loneliness and despair only to feel God is not there. Wondering how will we recover? Only to discover; God was there all the time in spite of how we felt.

Do not be discouraged. Let your hearts not be troubled. God is a present help in time of trouble. Cast your cares upon him. He will give you rest.  It may not look like it now in the wake of devastation, but God knows best. He will calm the raging storm around and within you. He is there for you. Be hopeful. Have faith in God. Trust the Lord.

My thoughts and prayers are with every family who has been affected by last night’s powerful, devastating storm that they may find peace, strength, and comfort. Jesus be a fence. Send your armor of protection to surround them. Guard their hearts. Give them patience not to give up. Hope to grow in grace of blessings that will overflow from God’s cup. Give them strength to endure in the wake of devastation. Be patient.

Peace be still….

Be blessed! -JD
